An exam room at Superior Urgent Care in Canal Winchester

Urgent Care

Superior Urgent Care is an independent walk-in clinic on Gender Rd. in Canal Winchester, open seven days a week for the things that will not wait for a primary care appointment and do not belong in an emergency room. Colds, coughs and flu. Sore throats and strep. Ear and sinus infections. Urinary tract infections. Cuts, scrapes, rashes and skin infections. Strains, sprains and minor injuries. COVID-19 testing. Our providers are certified family nurse practitioners with extensive inpatient and outpatient experience, and they see patients from pediatric through geriatric. We are in network with most insurance carriers and offer flexible self-pay options, and our medical assistants are trained to verify your coverage and explain what you will owe before you are surprised by it. Because we are independent rather than part of a hospital system, the person who sees you is the person who follows up with you. Russian and Ukrainian are spoken in the clinic. The providers who speak them are not in every day, so call (614) 829-3015 to check before you come in.

What We Do for Each of These

Colds, Coughs and Flu

Most of the time we can tell you what you are dealing with within minutes of swabbing you. Rapid influenza, COVID-19 and strep tests run in house, so instead of guessing, the provider knows before you leave the room whether this is flu, COVID, strep or a virus that has to run its course — and treats it accordingly. Antivirals work best started early, which is the whole argument for coming in on the Saturday rather than waiting for Monday. If a cough has gone on long enough to need a chest film, we write the outpatient imaging order and the results come back to the provider who saw you.

Sore and Strep Throat

A rapid strep test takes minutes. If it is positive, you leave with the antibiotic. If it is negative but your throat still looks like strep, we can send a throat culture to Quest for confirmation rather than treating you for something you do not have. Either way you find out the same visit.

Ear and Sinus Infections

Ear pain is one of the most common reasons people walk in here, and it is one of the fastest visits. The provider looks in the ear, tells you what they see, and treats it. Sinus infections get the same honest answer, including when the answer is that antibiotics will not help yet and what will.

Urinary Tract Infections

We test a urine sample in house and can start treatment the same visit. When the culture matters — a UTI that keeps coming back, or one that did not clear on the first antibiotic — the sample goes to Quest and the provider follows up with you on the result.

Skin Infections and Rashes

Rashes, cellulitis, abscesses, insect bites, poison ivy, shingles. The provider examines it, tells you what it is, and treats it — including draining an abscess here when that is what it needs, rather than sending you to an emergency room for a ten minute procedure.

Cuts and Scrapes

Cleaning, closure with sutures, staples or skin adhesive, and a dressing you can manage at home. If you are due for a tetanus booster we give it in the same visit. Come back and we will take the sutures out — that is not a second problem to solve somewhere else.

Strains and Sprains

We examine the injury, splint or brace it, and tell you honestly whether it needs an X-ray. We do not have imaging on site, so if a film is needed we write the outpatient order for a nearby facility and the results come back to the provider who saw you, rather than disappearing into another practice.

Minor Injuries

Burns, foreign bodies, smashed fingers, falls that did not quite go to the emergency room. Walk in and we will look at it. If it turns out to be beyond what an urgent care should handle, we will tell you that plainly and help you get where you need to go.

Outpatient Imaging Orders

We do not have X-ray on site. What we do is write the order for imaging at a nearby facility and get the results back so your provider here can act on them. It is one extra stop rather than starting over with a new practice.

How a Visit Works

  • Walk in, or save your spot — no appointment needed, seven days a week.
  • We check your coverage first — our medical assistants verify your insurance and explain your copay, coinsurance, deductible and out-of-pocket cost before you are seen.
  • You see a nurse practitioner — providers with extensive inpatient and outpatient experience, caring for patients from pediatric through geriatric.
  • Testing and follow-up stay with us — labs go to Quest Diagnostics, imaging is ordered at a nearby facility, and the results come back to the provider who saw you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk-ins are welcome every day we are open. If you would rather not wait, you can save your spot online before you come in.

Do you have X-ray on site?

No. We do not perform imaging at the clinic. When you need an X-ray we write the order for a nearby outpatient facility and the results come back to us, so your follow-up still happens here.

What are your hours?

Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 8:00pm. Saturday and Sunday, 9:30am to 5:30pm. Seven days a week.

We also offer flexible self-pay options. Our medical assistants will verify your coverage and walk you through your copay, coinsurance, deductible and out-of-pocket cost.
